Bunnies by Joanna Steege

Today’s featured art is Bunnies by Joanna Steege

While sitting here at my computer desk this morning, I happened to look outside and I noticed an adorable little brown bunny outside … it was headed towards my patio … made me realize that I hardly ever see bunnies outside in the wild down here in the Houston Texas area … in Iowa, bunny rabbits were everywhere all the time … not down here though. I miss seeing bunny rabbits!

These bunnies in watercolor are adorable and very whimsical … I can hear them gossiping and chatting about veggie gardens, avoiding predators and who has the longest ears. Very well drawn and painted! I love the story they are telling me without words. I hope these bunnies inspire you to create a story in watercolor without using words.

Inspiration: Can you hear the music?

Today’s featured art is acuarela 2 by Jose De la Barra

I love the unique effects that can be achieved with watercolors. I love this painting - it is gorgeous and very well done. When I look at this lovely artwork I enjoy it and the vibrant colors bring the music to life for me …

… and it reminds me that many times with great music … the musicians individuality disappears into the musical harmony to create more.

Then I start wondering how someone created a full color piece like this without having a muddy mess. I really appreciate how the blues surround and focus the attention on the musicians.

Did he do it freehand in blues first with no masking … just leaving a white area for other vibrant colors for the musical arrangement?

Did he do the musicians first then the brilliant blues around them?

Or perhaps a combination of both techniques?

This would be a great painting for a watercolor art teacher to have students try to “paint like a master”. I find Jose De La Barra’s artwork to be master pieces! Be sure to go look at his other gorgeous paintings in his Imagekind Gallery.
